“Throughout my career in public service, I have been fighting to ensure that every person, regardless of their gender, has access to the full rights and benefits our nation has to offer.”

Hilda Solis has a solid track record of commitment to women’s issues and has been endorsed by the California chapter of the National Organization of Women, the Feminist Majority, and the National Women’s Political Caucus.

Creating a Safe Environment for Victims of Domestic Violence
Hilda Solis believes that no one should suffer the abuses of domestic violence. That is why she authored provisions in the Violence Against Women Act (Public Law 109-162), providing grants to promote awareness of domestic violence in under-served communities. Her work has also supported the creation of special domestic violence courts, reducing the backlog of domestic violence cases and helping to increase conviction rates. Hilda knows the importance of improving access to county services for battered women and their children. From temporary housing, to job training and access to affordable childcare, she supports programs that seek to help victims of abuse rebuild a life free of domestic violence.

Promoting Women’s Health
Hilda Solis believes all women should have equal access to quality, affordable health care. She strongly supports increased research and treatment for breast and cervical cancer, outreach for women living with HIV and AIDS, and access to prenatal care. Hilda is also a strong supporter of local community health programs. These critical services not only provide local and convenient access for residents of the 1st District, but they can also help families navigate the complexities of the health care system. Hilda has worked to provide grants for community health care programs so that they may continue their important work for women across Los Angeles County.

Defending Women’s Reproductive Freedom
As a Member of the Bipartisan Pro-Choice Caucus, Hilda Solis was and still is a staunch defender of women’s reproductive rights. She believes that every woman should have access to effective, low-cost family planning, including requiring insurance companies to cover prescription contraceptive methods. Hilda supports the fight to protect affordable access to reproductive health care for all women. That is why she is endorsed by the California chapter of the National Organization for Women.

Supporting Women through the Women’s Caucus
In Congress, Hilda served as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, leading the fight for women’s rights in the Capitol on a broad array of issues. While in Congress, Hilda helped pass a number of important bills, including the reauthorization of both the Violence Against Women Act and the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program Act. Additionally, the Caucus supported briefings on many issues important to women, including retirement planning, women’s health research, and women in business, among others. She is committed to make women’s issues a priority and to working with all levels of government to make a difference in the lives of women in Supervisorial District One and across the County of Los Angeles.
