Supervisor Solis and the L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved spending $13.56 million for a park to be built in El Monte on the grounds of the former MacLaren Children’s Center. This site operated for decades as a county-run orphanage before being closed down in 2003. The approximate 5.6-acre facility would include a soccer field, basketball court, tennis court, walking path, fitness areas, shade structures, an outdoor classroom and performance space and children’s play areas. Groundbreaking is expected for 2023 with a completion date in 2024. Supervisor Solis is leading the efforts to bring more green space to her district and is looking forward to working with the City of El Monte to bring this space to the local community.
